As the holidays quickly approach, the air has shifted and feels lighter and filled with joy. With that joy comes the opportunity to participate in the adoption of an animal. During the Christmas season, many children are asking for a dog as their Christmas gift, and as their parent, if you believe they are responsible enough to take care of these lovely animals, how about going through adoption? Here are a few reasons why we find adoption to be a wonderful option.

Saving a Life

There are so many adoptable dogs within the United States that never receive the enjoyment of living with their forever family. Because shelters are overpopulated, or go out of business, the animals kept within their walls are left without a place, and are therefore possibly euthanized.

Pay Less

The process of adoption is sometimes less than what people believe it to be, and if you are adopting from a shelter that includes the price of vaccines, spay/neuter, and possible microchipping, you’re not spending as much as you would elsewhere.

Animals Benefit you and your Health

Studies have shown that having a dog provides an owner with multiple emotional and physical health benefits. Heart rate has been known to decrease while petting a dog, women sleep better when a dog is in the bed, and so much more.

Your Family will Thank You

Even though caring for a dog holds more responsibility than that of other animals, adopted dogs have the potential to be full of love and commitment to you and your family. Your children will love the animal, no matter where you bought it, so make the purchase one of meaning.

Once you have a new member of your forever family, why not treat them to our wonderful services here at Dog Tired on John’s Island? We would love to get to know the new member of your family through daycare, grooming, boarding, or bathing!
