Happy Independence Day from the Dog Tired team! While the celebrations commence, we want to take a moment and remind you to keep your beloved pets safe and comfortable during the festivities! They, too, want to celebrate!
Be mindful of the outside temperature. We have already been experiencing such high levels of heat and humidity this Summer. If you have your dog outside while you are grilling delicious hamburgers and hotdogs, make sure they have shade and water at their convenience.
Proper identification is important to keep on your dog’s collar. Double check that your dog has all their tags in case they decide to roam! The Fourth of July is known to be the biggest day of the year for lost pets. To prevent this, keep your pet indoors and safe.
Keep your dogs away from Fireworks. The bright and colorful explosions are fun to watch, but can be extremely dangerous. Make sure when handling fireworks that your dog is at a safe distance. If your dog shows signs of distress due to loud fireworks, take them inside and remove them from the scene. If you are the one setting them off, it may be a good idea to switch to sparklers. A dog’s hearing is far greater than a human’s, so if it is loud to your ears, it is much louder to your dog’s.
Keep an eye on what your dog drinks. If you have plans to celebrate on the lake, river, or ocean, make sure your dog is not drinking from these bodies of water. Pack up your dog’s favorite bowl and some water along with your own forms of hydration. Sitting water can be a pool of bacteria that is harmful to you and your dog.
